Venlo to the European top with the Smart Logistics Centre

As a stakeholder in the Smart Logistics Centre Venlo project, we as GEBA Trans are proud of its recent official launch. The Venlo-Venray logistics hotspot will use this initiative to focus on four important cornerstones, ensuring that we will remain to be the number one logistics hotspot in Europe. These cornerstones are: Infrastructure, Employment and Training, Innovation and Public Relations. As an active member of one of the committees that manages this initiative, GEBA Trans will be closely connected to all developments.

This is a ‘for an by’ entrepreneurs initiative. “We embrace the fact that we have to cooperate and focus on larger logistics projects. It’s the only thing that will allow us to consolidate our leading position in the future”, said Sjang Emons, namesake of the Sjang Emons Group in Milsbeek. “We know what the industry needs, that’s why we took matters into our own hands to accommodate just that.” Together with industrial bank LIOF, acting as the program manager, this will be accomplished with no less than 90 stakeholders.

When it comes to infrastructure, the focus will remain at trimodal access and the widening of the A67 highway between Eindhoven and Venlo. This cornerstone will also focus on the development of a new rail terminal at the Trade Port Noord. Adequate training new workforce will be a priority in terms of education. One tangible way in which this is achieved, is the creation of specific logistics curricula together with ‘Gilde Opleidingen’ and ‘Fontys Hogescholen’. The Acquisition and PR cornerstone will start with focusing on hosting an international logistics exhibition, where various handling companies and logistics service providers can stand out in the international playing field.

The Province of Limburg also attended the official launch as it was represented by Mr. Twan Beurskens, the Provincial Executive for Economy and Land Affairs. The Province is an important partner as well, as it will invest over € 300,000 in the Smart Logistics Centre in Venlo on a short term.
